Led by Mara Skujeniece, Studio Skujeniece designs furniture and interior products. Central to Mara’s work which takes much of its inspiration from her Latvian origins, is the tactility of material, honesty in expression and a well thought-out process.

Our work starts with a simple premise: waste is the most abundant local resource our cities have to offer. Often free or inexpensive, waste is a seemingly endless supply, always providing new and exciting designpossibilities. As such, we approach our work from two angles. We are both searching for found objects to suit specific design program, and continuously harvesting available waste materials to derive concepts from.

Ciao, eccomi di nuovo.

Sono stata tre giorni a Budapest, e, a parte prendermi una gastroenterite infernale proprio all’ultimo, sono capitata in mezzo ad una fiera di design/handmade magiaro. Dove c’erano un sacco di cose belle, alcune già viste, altre notevoli. Purtroppo non ho preso i biglietti da visita di tutti, in parte perchè sono distratta, e anche perchè non tutti avevano internets. Però Duc Saj Judit si, e mi hanno colpito soprattutto i suoi gioielli fatti intrecciando cotone o plastica con le dita, senza utilizzo di ferri o uncinetti (lo so perchè glielo ho chiesto, ed è stata dura perchè non capiva bene l’inglese, ma con atteggiamenti alla Totò all’estero si ottiene molto). The intention for this project was to make sound visible. As there is already a variety of ways in which sounds can be seen (equalizers, sub-titles, etc.), my aim was to produce a device where that representation of sound would be a physical one. I therefore used the sewing machine as the basis for the project as I feel it is synonymous with industry, and making physical products. Due to limitations in my computer programming skills this model of a stereo/sewing machine is a prototype of how I imagined the actual product would look. (…)

Mark Khaisman è nato in Ucraina e ha studiato arte e architettura in Russia; ora vive negli Stati Uniti, a Philadelphia. A farcelo conoscere, non tanto queste informazioni su chi è, ma ciò che fa con un materiale di solito usato più per proteggere e semmai impacchettare le opere d’arte che per realizzarle.
Khaisman infatti crea impressionanti, fantastiche riproduzioni di still cinematografici e altri soggetti (mobilio d’epoca, volti, ecc.) utilizzando esclusivamente nastro adesivo, proprio quello marrone da pacchi. (via)

Dopo aver imparato come fare un astuccio da una musicassetta, ecco una lampada fatta con tante cassette. La produce Transparent House, assieme ad un’altra altrettanto interessante: Perspektiva Lamp, in pratica una macchina fotografica (analogica) montata su cavalletto (qui un video).
