Inspired by the work of Anastassia Elias, me and Tso made a paper roll installation for a disco night here in town.

I tried to do something different with a bunch of my postcards laying around.

With Tso again, we made a book for Edizioni Fantasma’s project. We decided to refer to our collaboration as Carmen Praxedes. We eventually abandoned the book around, as the project required.

I started 365at5. Only one month left till the end now!

I got to see J Mascis play.

I made a cheap chain necklace based upon a beautiful one my mom made about 30 years ago.

I put my embroidery machine at work again.

Together with my knit/crochet squad, we set up some thread scenery in the woods.

I visited Rome’s Botanical Garden, at last.

My very very favourite cafe/library closed, so the knit squad and I made some gifts to the survivors, as something fun to remember.

I worked on the redesign of a friend theatre group: Teatro Pantegano.

I was told to play harmonica, but I tried with no success.

I walked in the woods with some friends.

I put together the knit squad mascotte for this year. It’s still without a face! Divo and Sgonfio are past years mascottes.

Hopped on a horse again, after so long.

Made some theatre shooting for a friend. Several years had passed from the last time.

I drew a sad face, trying to make less sad faces myself (fail!).

I went to New York! Last time was in 1998. I had never seen it during autumn, it’s super.

I started A Step Behind, in addiction to my eyes diary.

Printed few analogic photos (some are very old) for Analogica.

Found a pop-up card I made in 2004.

Machine embroidered some shoppers, sewed by a friend, for Alpacha distro.

Tried some crocodile stitch.

Owen Gildersleeve is a designer and illustrator based in London. Owen is part of the Evening Tweed design collective, and one half of the band Old Mayor. I like the multilayered paper-cut piece, the winter sweater, the september word created from back-to-school related things, and many more other appealing works.

Un modo ricicloso per decorare i pacchetti regalo: fabbricarsi le proprie coccarde di carta. È molto semplice con il tutorial di How About Orange (in inglese, ma comprensibile anche guardando le sole foto): servono solo ritagli di carta (di giornale, di riviste, di mappe, di libri, di mille altre cose), un po’ di colla o di nastro biadesivo e/o una spillatrice, e un paio di forbici per dei bordi netti, altrimenti nemmeno quelle (la carta di può strappare anche a mano!).

Variante uno: al posto di colla/biadesivo/spillatrice si possono utilizzare dei fermacampioni, come nel tutorial di Miss American Pie su Craftster.

Variante due: al posto della carta si può utilizzare nastro da regalo, magari quello più largo per cominciare.  Se poi avanza nastro, tempo e pazienza, si può anche fare una stella con nastro.

Menzione d’onore a chi utilizza carta di recupero (uguale o a contrasto con quella utilizzata per la coccarda) anche per incartare il regalo. Primo premio per chi ricicla pure il regalo! ;)

Matthew Shlian è un ingegnere della carta, ma il suo approccio all’arte dell’origami è al confine con la filosofia e con la scienza:

Beginning with an initial fold, a single action causes a transfer of energy to subsequent folds, which ultimately manifest in drawings and three dimensional forms. I use my engineering skills to create kinetic sculpture which have lead to collaborations with scientists at the University of Michigan. We work on the nanoscale, translating paper structures to micro origami. Our investigations extend to visualizing cellular division and solar cell development. Researchers see paper engineering as a metaphor for scientific principals; I see their inquiry as basis for artistic inspiration.

Le sue sculture sono complesse e semplici allo stesso tempo, e non si limitano all’origami ma abbracciano anche l’intaglio ed il mondo dei paper automata.
Mi piace tantissimo la serie City Cut: geniale l’idea di realizzare biglietti kirigami usando stampe di paesaggi, che completano l’intaglio creando bellissimi effetti.
Il sito è pieno di spunti ed idee interessanti, c’è parecchio da esplorare tra disegni, video e musica.

Si, neanche a me piacciono le feste comandate. Però questa è un’idea carina che può servire per mille occasioni, o anche nessuna: i flip book mi piacciono talmente che non c’è bisogno di un motivo per farne uno. A kiss in your pocket tutorial, di Color Me Katie. (via)

Through all her endeavors, she continued to gather visual information, trying new techniques with fabric and adding to her already extensive fabric collection.

Oggi vive nei dintorni di NY e fa l’artista a tempo pieno. Di tempo e pazienza ha sicuramente bisogno per fare i suoi incredibili e dettagliatissimi collage di stoffa (!) e carta.

[...] Thousands of pieces of fabric are often contained in each work. Attention to detail is my way of capturing viewers, bringing them in closer so that details meld into shapes and color – which is often the case when we contemplate an object.
